Preparing for a journey
A couple of years back, I met this author who wrote a book about personal finance. In a luncheon meeting with him. He shared his simple tip about becoming rich. He said, becoming rich is like going on a long trip or journey. You prepare for the trip, make sure you packed the things you need, clothes, money, maps, etc. You check if your car is prepared for the trip, have it change-oiled, check the tires if inflated, make sure that spare tire is good, etc. During the long drive you need to stop and rest. Also you might not know if there are unexpected detours on the road, unscheduled stops, accidents etc.
He said its the same thing as getting rich. You need patience for the journey, you need to stop and assess your situation. You might see shortcuts along the way which can be opportunities that you can decide to take or not. And there maybe detours, accidents, unexpected car problems that would delay you from getting where you need to get.
I just nodded and continued eating. Back then I wasn’t that focused or inspired to act on his ideas, but his ideas stuck to me. I’m now preparing for the journey. Putting words into action is the key to getting rich for you can have all the ideas in the world but if you don’t act on them you will stay stagnant.
